Miami International Airport, Florida - July 14, 1974
Here is a super picture of the Calder Super DC-8 taking off from Miami’s runways 9L (now known as 8R) on a warm summer day in Miami. After the demise of Braniff, this aircraft flew for Pegasus and Rich International, although not with this splendid paint job, which was truly a work of art. In 1998, it was broken up in Miami, the very same airport that it used to frequent often, and I was heartbroken when I saw it in many pieces. It would be creamated into thousands of aluminum soda cans, a sad end for this beautiful flying masterpiece!
